Managing Editor, Lead Web Designer, Founding Member

how i got here

The Wave was just a sprout of an idea one year ago (September 2019), a nascent experiment as part of the Harvard Asian Student Arts Project. And as a tiny first-year myself, intimidated but thrilled by my new life at Harvard, I think I found kinship with this exciting what-could-be.

So, I approached our two co-founders, to join the team — and after a winter spent designing our website, after a 50+ bubble tea order for our successful Volume One launch celebration, and after pouring our love into creating the Quaranzine this summer, I have not looked back. The Wave is where I deepen my love for writing, where I find pride in my identity, where I find community in creation.

The Wave is a magazine, digital platform and creative space for Asian artists to express our multifaceted experiences and have our voices heard. None of us expected to evolve past a magazine — but after gaining so much love for our Quaranzine featuring Asian voices in the time of COVID-19, we have realized the potential of The Wave to not only publish stories, but make spaces for us to create, learn from inspiring artists, connect with those of similar and different creeds, and so much more. With our Editor-in-Chief, I now lead The Wave as Managing Editor, overseeing our Tech & Media and Business teams. I’m excited to deepen my passions, and continue making waves.

The Quaranzine is a digital zine of 29 pan-Asian creative voices in the time of COVID-19. As General Manager, website guru, and occasional writer, I helped lead the launch of this product, from ideation, publicization strategy, to web design and platform — along with some Instagram designs, and a poem I wrote titled “red”!

Because of the Quaranzine, we doubled our followers on Instagram and achieved a nearly 300% pageview increase in July. We created not just a magazine, but a platform and community to uplift Asian perspectives in defiance of the increasingly hostile rhetoric surrounding our cultural backgrounds.
